World War II was one of the longest and bloodiest wars in world history. It began in 1939 and lasted until 1945. The war basically began with Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party in 1933. The conflict involves many countries and took place in many parts of the world. I've created this site to layout the significant events that took place in this tragic conflict.

WWII begins with Germany invading Poland. France and Great Britain declare war, the Reich utilizes Blitzkrieg, or lightning war, to take much of Western Europe. Germany, Italy and Japan sign the Tripartite Pact to create the Axis Powers.
The Axis Powers make a push into Russia with over 4 million troops. A few months later on December 7th, 1941, the Japanese attack the US Navy in Pearl Harbor. They respond with a devastating blow to the Japanese Navy at the Battle of Midway.
June 6, 1944, D-day begins with the invasion of Normandy. The Allies invade France and push back the Germans, The Germans launch a massive attack at the battle of the Bulge. They lose to the Allies which seals the fate of the German army.
The war in the Pacific begins as US marines invade Iwo Jima. The Allies move from one Pacific island to another making their way toward the Japanese mainland.
The US  third army under General Patton crosses the Rhine River advancing to Berlin. Adolf Hitler commits suicide as he knows Germany has lost the war. May 7th, 1945, Germany surrenders to the Allies.
August 1945, to prevent devastating loss of life from a military campaign to take the Japanese islands, the US drops the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima, then Nagasaki. The cities are destroyed. Japan surrenders to General MacArthur and the Allies on September 2nd, 1945.
